OTTAWA, ON - It's no secret that many women love the uniform, the buff body that is often inside it, and the selfless heroism that rounds out the classic image of the firefighter. "We plan to exploit our uniforms," Mr. Somerville says. "But for a good cause."
On May 29, he and two colleagues from Ajax Fire and Emergency Services -- Jeff Wright and Teresa Nowell (hey, men have uniform-related fantasies, too!) will don their gear and run the National Capital Marathon in Ottawa. Running a marathon, a distance of 42.2 kilometres, is a daunting athletic feat at the best of times, but the trio will do their run wearing waterproof rubber pants, oxygen packs, firefighting helmet and, of course, the red suspenders.
