CARLING TWP. - Carling Township Volunteer Firefighters already give up personal time to help others, now they have decided to give up half of the little financial compensation received for some duty to purchase and maintain the fire department’s equipment. Currently, if there is a motor vehicle collision on a provincial highway and firefighters are called out to assist, the Ministry of Transportation is billed for each piece of equipment used by the hour. The ministry then bills the insurance companies. At the end of the year this money is divided between the fire personnel who responded to the incidents. The amount varies every year and so far in 2003 it is about $8,000.
