KELOWNA, B.C. - CBC News has learned a large shipment of fire retardant gel did not arrive in Kelowna until the day after 238 homes burned to the ground this summer during the huge Okanagan Mountain wildfire. The gelled fire retardant was used to save hundreds of homes in California this year. But it wasn't ordered in bulk for B.C. until late in the fire season. It was only on August 15 that the B.C. Fire Commissioner ordered a large shipment.
