What should I know in the work place before being a firefighter?

To do with stress? FFing can be stressful. Being fit and healthy is number 1. Being a volunteer, the pager can go off just as your going to bed, then the call takes all night, then you have to go to work in the morning, if you cant take time off. So usally once a year you go for 36-48 hours with no sleep.

any body know how easy it is to do ride alongs in southwestern ontario? i guess i dont need it any more cause im taking a fire course but it would still be good expieriance. <--sp

I'm not sure about other departments, but I do know that Brampton does do ride alongs. You would just have to phone administration (Headquarters) and they will help you from there.

oops my fault. i meant ride alongs in ambualnces. im already a volly member so i dont need ride alongs in fire trucks. but when i was considering being a paramedic i thought ride alongs would help. anybody ever do ambualnce ride alongs?

ahhh ... my mistake. I'm not sure of what Peel Region ambulance's take is on ride alongs.

I'm going into work tonight, and I'll ask them when we meet for a call.

I believe Peel Ambulance does ride alongs, only if your either a firefighter or a police officer, forgot where i heard this but maybe im thinking it was Metro Toronto Ambulance that did it, i recall seeing an article abotu the lack of respect that one member had gotten from a fire dept in the GTA and the writer was inviting firefighters to ride a night with them literally.
