THUNDER BAY, ON - Joe Adamkowski took part in a relay last evening and through to this morning that could possibly help save his life. He was joined by what was expected to be more than 2,000 other people at Fort William Historical Park for the occasion.

The 48-year-old took part in the event hosted by the Canadian Cancer Society last year and the year before, helping to contribute to the $160,000 that it raised for local cancer research last year alone.

But the firefighter, who was diagnosed in 1992 with colon cancer that later spread to his liver and lungs, raised $6,003 last year and $3,500 the year before. Adamkowski expects his tally this year of $10,759 to again be among the top end of the individual fundraising achievements at the relay.

I would say he has good argument. I gave him a high 5.
