Just reading what Russel has got in their new hall, so I thought I would start a thread on what kind of halls everyone has. WE moved into to our new hall about 7 years ago now. A HUGE improvemnet from the dark, dirty, small and crammped hall that was in the downtown district of our town. At our hall now, we currently have the following..

-5 bays, not long enough for 2 rigs but long enough, for say a large ladder/platform truck. In these bays we keep Rescue, Pumper, Tanker, Antique and Snuffer and fianally Command Centre/trailer which is pulled with our older modified tanker.
-Jordair bottle fill station
-Our own personal hydrant right in the hall
-Large, and I mean huge, shower for washing off gear.
-3 peice bathroom with another Tub/shower.
-Enclosed meeting room with AC with Chiefs office, and radio room
-Closet space throughout the hall.
-Workbench and tool box.
-Trophy/picture display cases. (2)
-Full sized kitchen within the meeting room. (fridge, stove, grill, sink, cupboards, counter space)

In the future we are planning on some fitness equipment and a training tower out back for muster practice and training. Overall I think we are very lucky to have all this. Everyone loves to hang out at the hall to work and train.

We're still in the department's original station/hall build in the 70's.... it holds us, but just barely!

Here goes.

It is a quanset hut style building.
We have Five apparatus bays (this is where it gets tricky)
The apparatus floor is Two wide and Two Deep and the fifth spot we built a new office, radio room, engineering area and a bigger storage room.
On the apparatus floor is the Engine and Rescue up front
Behind the Engine is the Tender and behind the Rescue is our Bush truck.
The office/radio room is next to the bush truck.
In front of the office is the engineering area. Complete with mass amounts of spare parts and tools.
Behind is a storage room, where things like hose, foam, etc. is stored.
Behind the apparatus floor (rear of the building) is another storage room (turn out gear, and other equipment), Gear lockers, wash room, hose tower access, washing machine and SCBA area, complete with inspection bench and cascade system.
Upstairs is wide open and as big as 2 full apparatus bays. This is the training area and includes some desks in one corner. TV and couches in the other, and a complete kitch and bathroom. It has a big trophie and display case on the end wall.
There is also a storage room for things like the freezer, outdated paperwork, bulk medial supplies, etc. As well as storage for the community group that uses the upstairs (it sits empty 90% of the time so why not use it for something to benifit the community!).

It is really hard to describe the how things are layed out!

In my old fire hall, this is what we had...

Total square footage was only approx 5000 for the bay. This was made to accomadate a ladder truck, 1 pumper, 1 pumper/tanker, rescue and a First Responder truck.

When the new fire hall was built, they expanded the bay to 3 times the size! As well, in the new hall, there's a full kitchen/staff room, bedrooms, meeting room, gym (fully equipped) offices for the Chief/Deputy, secretary, a catwalk that can accomodate high-angle rescue training, wash-bay and a few more things that I'm not sure about. I left that particular FD just before they moved in! I was very depressed!

In the old fire hall, we barely had 3 feet of space to put on our gear when we got a call. Luckly, it was the ladder truck whick usually only rolled out 3rd, so no danger of it moving while you're getting dressed! Now they have their own room to get dressed! I can't wait to move back & join again!

Our hall has five bays across for three pumpers, one pumper/tanker and one rescue van. Above the first bay is our storage area, and off that is the radio operator's room overlooking the other four bays. Our turnout gear is stored in each individual cubby that goes all along behind, and beside the trucks on the outside walls.

Behind the appartus room is our meeting and rental area, it's too very large rooms on two seperate levels that can seat over 200 people. We just added two new washrooms with showers and all wheelchair accesable. There's also a full kitchen with two of each appliance. We have a fully stocked bar that is only opened on rental events with a provincial liquor licence. We also have a training room, a recreational room, furnace room, mop and dry-stores room, and a cascade room.

Across the yard from our station, we have two offices, one is the chief's office and the other is the D/C's office. Also in two seperate bulidings out back of our station, we have a gas/deisel pumping station along with a generator room that can run our entire hall incase of a power outage. Our station is the EMO shelter incase of an incident....and was used for over a week last year for this during the big power outage that effected most of Nova Scotia. We housed and fed hundreds of area citizens as well as three large senior citizen housing developments who we provided food and heating/lighting for.

We have 3 bays, but will soon be expanding to 5.

Gear lockers for each member, workshop, compressor room, secure storage room, storage on a mezzanine in the bays, washroom, hose tower, Chief's office, and Deputy Chief's / Training / Radio Room.

On the second floor we have a large meeting room, big screen tv, pool table, foosball table, washroom, kitchen, and storage room.

We just had our first meeting with the architects, to start planning our expansion, and renovation. Depending on available budget, in addition to the 2 new bays, we hope to add gear room, locker room, his and hers showers, a secure separate SCBA room, conference/training room, larger meeting room, and a members only room. We also hope to renovate and expand our kitchen into a commercial style kitchen. :D

We hope to see a brass pole in the expanded hall, but that may be a wish that doesn't come true...

Stay safe !!
