View Full Version : Paramedic/EMT Qualifications
Could somebody point me towards a website that outlines the various EMS qualifications?
I'm in Ontario, so I've done some reading on PCP, ACP, & CCP qualifications, and I'm wondering how they relate to other provinces......it seems many use an EMT-A/B & Paramedic approach? Anyway, if someone has some insight or a resource to point me at, I'de appreciate it.

In Manitoba they changed over to PCP etc.. They say its a little more in depth than the EMT.. Im of the EMT generation, i have looked over the course material and its a little different.. Nothing too drastic..I dont knw of any websites.. You can check the manitoba emergency services college website maybe they have a link?

In BC they have also gone to the PCP and ACP programs. Before they had CMA and EMA, and then P1, P2, P3. Basically the PCP and the old EMA II are the same except no I.V's for the PCP, unless they take the training for it.

In BC there is EMR, PCP, ACP and CCP as per the new NOCP standards. There is still FR3 but I'm pretty sure it will be done away with in the next couple years and everyone will be upgraded to EMR (about 6 extra training days). All PCP recruits now cover IV training.
EMR-120 hrs
PCP-around 700 hrs
ACP-2200 hrs
CCP-currently under revision but around 500 hrs
In the next few years PCP will most likely be made into a 2 year diploma similar to in Ontario. If you want skill specifics I can give it to you.

Hey tr23, check out the Paramedic Association of Canada and read the National Occupancies, at the link below. These are the Canadain standards and everyone will slowly get on board. Many provinces including BC, have.
