Hello all!
I was just wondering what kind of speciality apparatus various departments around Canada have? Perhaps we can get some sort of a list so that we can recognize the diversity of the apparatus within Canada?? I'll get the list started, the city I reside in has:
1 x Bronto (50m - E-One Cyclone cab) (Picture attached)
1 x Heavy Rescue (E-One model)
1 x Squrt (An articulating arm mounted on top of the truck that can pump out large quantities of water [not too sure about the flow rate]. 17m long arm, E-One Cyclone model)
Lets hear what everybody else has.......

Come on gang! After 111 views, 42 downloads, not a single person can list a speciality rig on their department?? You don't need to attach apicture or nothing, just a very brief description of any speciality rigs would be nice!
Our tanker is considdered "special" - that means you have to drive it slowly!!!!!!!!!!
All kidding aside we don't have anything special, but neighboring townships have an array of off-road equipment such as brush fire trailers designed to go behind quads, 4x4 trucks with skid units, 4x4's with snuffer units, etc. No pics, sorry

I hope the attachment works ...
I work on a Pumper Rescue/Squad and our department has three and a 4th is on the way. We carry all of the hurst rescue tools on these as well as lots of cribbing. We respond to all mvc's and industrial accidents as well as being a front line pumper.
We're also the busiest truck in Brampton with over 2400 calls a year.

We have a tanker that we call a SLUT; "short little ugly tanker". Its a 1992 IHC with a 1300 gal. tank. Its sooo ugly that I can't post a picture of it, its a real DAWG.:D . Really, I'm serious!!
The department that I'm in Niagara Falls #4 has a Ford 750
which has a short wheel base that is ideal for use in small residential roads and it is also used to tow a rigid inflatable hull hornett. It has all the capabilities of a full size commercial pumper, seats four firefighters 500 gallon tank 1050 pump and lots of compartment space.

Edmonton has a 40 foot semi unit that is used for dangerous goods. It has a series of showers that you go through continually taking something off. Like all clothes then underwear then naked. Then you walk out the door and get sweats and a tshirt. Theres an examination table that the medics use to make sure your ok. Its also used to hold pizza's when waiting for something to happen at a call, because at some DG calls you wait for a long time. Has a command office also.
If anyone in Edmonton wants to see it its downtown at station 2.

I'm kidding....It's just a joke....sorry.
We really did get a new axe though.
PS: I'd take a picture, but we don't have a camera.

What do you mean it's just a joke? You wouldn't really let anyone borrow it?

Hey bestcoast, do you have any pictures of your fireboats? That would definitely be specialized apparatus.:)

Actually DFCSmash if i had a photo of our old Fireboat i'd love to post it. It was one of the best around, then politic's got in the way and it was moth-balled for a couple year's, then San Francisco Fire got it for a steal!!! The new system we have is brutal...5 small fireboats run by 4 different city's, they are to small, always out of service for mechanical reason's and basically would be useless at a major alarm on the waterfront. Pretty sad for a city that is surrounded by Water!!!  But like we say you gotta work with what you got......BC

Brutal. Gotta love the politicians. But, hey, they're happy in San Fran. When the big fire hits (and it will) those who made the decision will no longer be around to answer for it, but the FD will :( . Will now stop the hijacking. :D

Hey Scoop,
I quite enjoyed your web site! Some real nice Engines in Toronto. I especially like their new reflective striping design! I see TFD is going to the "Executer" siren. Nice!
Great looking rigs guys!

I agree BC your City is a major port City.. Everything from container ships to cruise ships. Not to mention all the coastal industrial operations. I can recall how many times the guys at 2 Hall said their boat was out of service.
I'm sure you'll have to wait till the big one strikes.. then the City will do something to rectify the problem.

It's not my site. It's done by a buff in Toronto. I think he's done a great job.

The only thing we have is a 25 foot trailer pulled by our "BIGFOOT" It's our old tanker and we put a pickup box on it, and it kinda looks like a monster truck. It is our mobile command post and used for trailering our antique.

This is one of two fireboats operated by my department. Like has been previously stated they are too small and usually out of service half the time.

In Inuvik, they have a Hydrant truck that carries the High Volume (4" hose with Stortz Couplings) hose in the bed and makes the lay to the hydrant. There are some long lays because we have Utilidors that are above ground because you can't burry anything in the permafrost. It rolls right behind Pumper 1. It is an F-350 4x4 Crewcab body with a special box on the back. The Tanker (2500 gal) also has a bunch of High Volume hose on top in case we need to make a second connection or Hydrant is unavailable.
Many departments up here also have snowmobiles to assist in Rescues durring most of the year.
Nain (Labrador) has my favourite truck -- Chevy 3500 with TRACKS and a CAF System...I WANT ONE:D :D :D

Hey Cadet,
Don't forget CFD's two newest aerial platforms. 114 Bronto RLP's on E1 Cyclone II chassis. Nice boom, not so nice chassis. Needs a Spartan under it.
