HIGH RIVER, AB - The Longview Fire Department is doing more than fighting fire these days. They are also fighting a shortage of manpower. “It was pretty busy this year,” said Longview Fire Chief George De La Mare. “Right now, our members seem to come and go. With so many of them working in Calgary, some are moving to Calgary,”

Despite losing some good members in the department, Longview has been able to provide service not only to the village but also to the western portion of the M.D. of Foothills. Longview, along with Black Diamond and Turner Valley departments, responded to a fire at the Eden Valley office on Sept. 29. Although a gymnasium and a classroom were destroyed in the fire, no one was injured. The Longview Fire Department also responded to a motor vehicle collision at Chain Lakes on Sept. 29.
