The blaring beep of the alarm vibrates through Fire Station No. 1. It's dinner time. Half-eaten plates of spaghetti, sprinkled with a cursing-hot sauce -- aptly named Spontaneous Combustion -- are abandoned. That familiar adrenalin rush kicks in. A motorist has called 911, reporting that someone has jumped off a bridge. A fire truck and aquatic rescue truck scream out of the station at 450 1st St. S.E., racing towards Glenmore Reservoir in the city's southwest. It's a jarring ride and time is critical. A van in the fast lane toddles along, oblivious to the flashing red lights and wailing siren behind it.
