OAK BAY - A fire at sea offers one of the most harrowing choices a mariner will ever have to make: stay on board and burn, inevitably sinking into the icy depths when the water rushes in; or jump into the water to take one's chances in the cruel sea. A crew of five who had taken their 45-foot fishing boat out off the coast of Oak Bay found themselves facing that dilemma Jan. 16. Despite the fact that fire extinguishers were used to try and douse the flames eating away at the helm, the fire was unyielding.
