WHISTLER - As a professional firefighter in Melbourne, Australia, Greg Blackman could only have imagined skate-skiing from his home to work. But he has done it more than once since arriving in mid-January for a year-long firefighter exchange with the Whistler Fire Rescue Service (WFRS). “I’ve been enjoying the outdoor stuff. It’s like a paradise — a dream place to come for an exchange like this,” said Blackman, who arrived Jan. 17 along with his wife, Jill. That’s one of the fringe benefits of having been chosen to take part in the exchange, which saw Whistler firefighter Brian Buchholz and his family head to Melbourne two days after the Blackmans arrived in Whistler.
