HALIFAX, NS - They're tearing down the Christmas lights in Halifax, but it's not political correctness or even confusion about the date. Halifax, along with some consumers, is reacting to a national recall on some outdoor LED lights issued Friday by the Canadian Standards Association (http://www.csagroup.org/product_recalls/default.asp?articleID=8619&searchType=exactPhrase&searchWordList=228296&language=English). Bortex Industry Co. Ltd. produced the recalled lights. The agency says a manufacturing problem can cause overheating and possible melting, but there have been no reports of any incidents. "Consumers who have purchased these light strings should stop using them immediately," CSA said.

Nova Scotia Power distributed 3,000 strings of the lights this week, but recalled them Thursday. It gave 2,000 strings to consumers in exchange for less-efficient traditional bulbs, and gave the rest to the provincial food bank organization.
