Firefighters hold back Thompson blaze

THOMPSON - A burn-back planned for Monday night in the battle against a massive forest fire near Thompson had to be called off because weather conditions weren't right. The fire, about 20 kilometres northwest of Thompson, is estimated to be 32,000 hectares in size. No communities are threatened by the fire. Even though the burn-back was cancelled, Tom Mirus, with the province's fire program, says the 400 firefighters battling the blaze have been successful in the last three days at holding the fire.
