On what certainly appears to be a successful round of negotiations.

We are pretty happy about it. It is a fair deal that puts us on par with the police.

We will be doing a test in one of the districts for one year in 2005.

We were thinking about the 24hr shift but the city will always want you to give up something in return come contract time...

We got a good deal and didn't give up anything. I'm sure council tried. The 24 doesn't cost the city though, it saves it. They only have to do manpower once a day and only have to pay overtime at shift-change once a day.

We were also trying to sell it to the city that it saved money by helping reduce specialized training costs. All shifts will have at least 1 day shift throught the work week and training can have outside training agencies hit all shifts in 1 week instead of a month. It also is suppose to reduce sick day usage but we were told this should not be mentioned in negotiations. I am not sure why.

As my daughter would say:
24/72 is "da bomb"

Our Dept went from 10/14 to 24/72 a little over 20 years ago I'm not sure what arguement was used to sell it, but I'm ever so glad it worked :)
