YELLOWKNIFE - Firefighters are building a barrier between the town of Norman Wells and a large forest fire burning 18 kilometres west of the town, that's consumed about 1,600 hectares of bush. Mike Gravel, the incident commander for the town, says a fire guard is going up and water bombers are dousing the flames. Gravel says the town is safe at the moment, but wind gusts in the area are fanning the fire and the warm, dry conditions are making it difficult to contain. "It's really overall, a really messy fire, very little water sources nearby, so there's really no way to, safely, put people on the ground in that fire," Gravel says
