A woman clinging to shore ice about 12 metres from the brink of the Horseshoe Falls was hoisted to safety by rescue workers Monday evening. Three Niagara Falls, Ont., firefighters went into the water trailing safety ropes and attached a harness to the woman. A ladder truck's 30-metre extension was poised over the river, and firefighters loaded her into a stretcher and hoisted her out.
