BC - A former Manitoba premier has recommended more controlled burning and selective logging in parks to reduce the possibility of another devastating forest fire season in British Columbia. The controlled burning is needed to reduce the amount of fuel building up, particularly in areas where housing development meets the forest, Gary Filmon said Friday. He had been asked by the provincial government to look into one of the worst fire years in B.C.'s history. "Obviously, it has to be done with great sensitivity to environmental health and fire hazard concerns, but it must be done."
