Hi All,
My wife and I would like to carry out an exchange programme to Canada in 2005 for up to a year. My wife is a teacher and looking into her options. I am a Fire-fighter with South Wales Fire Service in the UK. Ideally, we could do a straight swap with a fire-fighter and teacher who are husband and wife or partners. We would be willing to include houses, cars etc. in the exchange. I know that the chances of an ideal match is unlikely, so we are willing to look at all options.

We look forward to hearing from anyone.

INTRODUCTION

The fire fighter exchange program is designed for Toronto Fire Fighters who wish to avail themselves of the experience of going to another country to develop a higher level of professionalism. It is an opportunity for two people working in the same profession to exchange positions for a defined period of time.

Currently there are opportunities for Fire and Emergency personnel and their families exchange between Canada , New Zealand , the US and the UK , for one year. These people exchange duty hours, working agreements and vacation for the term of the exchange. They do not exchange salaries. They also pay for their own air fare and other travel expenses. Their children exchange schools, and their families either exchange accommodations directly or help each other arrange alternative living arrangements.

The start date for the next exchange program is August 2, 2005 . However because of the significant planning that needs to be done to exchange positions, accommodation and schooling the planning period needs to begin long in advance of that date. Applications will be received up to November 15, 2004. The selection will be done by a committee comprised of Local 3888 representatives and TFS representatives. There will only be 4 people allowed in the program at any one time.

A $50.00 non-refundable cheque must accompany the application as the exchange program is completely self- funding.
