Diabetes and firefighting

Hello everybody!

Just a really quick question. I have had insulin dependent diabetes since I was two years old and my diabetes is well controlled. Does having diabetes automatically disqualify me from becomming a firefighter?

If anybody has any information on this or knows where I can find information pertaining to this topic please let me know!

My good friend has diabetes and has been on our volly department for 4 years now. I have been on for 3 years and never once have I encountered a problem with him responding to calls and performing duties. He is strong and healthy and can always get a job done. He is looking into a police profession and eye sight and diabetes has caused a problem but nothing in firefighting.
