Fire officials are worried that two large fires just south of the border could blaze into B.C., increasing the number of wildfires in the province to 161. The Forests Ministry is developing a plan with its U.S. counterpart and monitoring the situation daily, provincial fire information officer Steve Bachop said. The Farewell Creek fire, burning in the Okanagon-Wenachee National Forest, just eight kilometres south of the border, has reached 24,000 hectares and has already cost over $20 million US.
