Hot, dry weather is fuelling the flames of four major forest fires across the province and drawing down water levels in Lower Mainland reservoirs, but no one is panicking yet. Neither is there any break in sight in weather conditions that have seen rainfall for Vancouver in July drop to half the normal levels. No rain is forecast before Sunday. Hundreds of firefighters have been called out to battle blazes near Osoyoos, Sicamous, north of Fort Nelson and in the Chilko Lake area in the Chilcotin.
