I noticed that alot of new vehicles being delivered/manufactured are coming with mini stop signs on the driver's side door- just wondering if this is a new NFPA standard, or if it is a dept. preference- either which way it's a great idea- our dept. almost had an incident recently involving traffic and persons exiting apparatus, and we're now looking at a PR campaign...
Thanks

The NFPA 1901-2003 Standard calls for reflective material to be on the inside of the cab doors so when they are opened into traffic it provides some safety to the personnel and provides an indication to oncoming traffic.
That said I much prefer the reflective red/white chevron design instead of the STOP sign as I worry about some idiot approaching the apparatus and then the cab door opens and the driver sees a STOP sign and does that and wham we have a rear ender or even worse he loses control on a slippery road and hits the rig...
I'd also suggest LED red flashing lights that activate when the cab doors are opened and these can be an inexpense Trucklite 4" diameter LED that cab be recessed into the lower panel.
