ASPHODEL-NORWOOD, ON - Council will write a letter of support stating the municipality’s wholehearted endorsement of a proposal to build a $750,000 Emergency Management Centre on the grounds of the Eastern Ontario Fire Academy (http://www.eofa.ca/) in Norwood.

“This is exciting,” said Reeve Doug Pearcy, just before Councillor Joe Crowley moved to support and endorse the proposal, which was approved by the fire academy’s board of directors in early February. Councillor Rod Manley, who is also the academy’s administrator, showed council a short film this week about the fire academy and the proposed emergency management centre.

The Eastern Ontario Fire Academy was founded in 1984 as a not-for-profit facility designed to train firefighters from Peterborough and surrounding counties. At the academy both recruits and veterans learn fire prevention and fire and fire and rescue techniques, as well as how to deal with emergencies and disasters.
