Apparently 16 people were called for 5 positions in Cambridge. This is just a rumour so don't quote me but that's the word around Seneca. The next round of phone calls will be the 14th I heard. This is just a rumour as well. Hope this helps.

From what i know waterloo has made interview calls. I haven't heard anything from either city. It's frustrating considering it's your hometown and there are like 800 members in the database.

yeah it's ridiculous...i mean departments don't even hire very often. Well, i guess we can looking forward to mississauga in the fall as well as london. stay positive...but it's hard when all these schools keep pumping out more competition.

peace

London has been known to only take those with NFPA level 2 so that limits the number of eligible applicants. I really wish they wouldn't do that. Is Mississauga really going to hire in the fall? Is it official yet?

My uncle is on the mississauga fire dept. and the word is that they are going to recruit. Not to sure how solid that info is....but thats what he says.....Good luck

yes, it's official, they just put a class through now and will be doing a brand new recruitment in the fall. I heard London will hire 5-10 and yes rumour is NFPA only (which suits me fine). Waterloo has called for 2nd interviews and Cambridge is supposed to be calling now so i'm keeping my fingers crossed. So other than London and Mississauga, things aren't looking to great for upcoming recruitments. I'm really hoping that Burlington and Oakville have one soon but i know they both have lists. Hopefully Guelph and Kitchener for next year. Otherwise i'll have to fly out to vancouver for their next.

i have heard that both Ottawa and Peterborough are recriuting in the spring. this is from the website and i also talked to the H.R department, pending town council decision.

You are correct with Peterborough. Yes, I think Ottawa usually does it before the end of may, however from what I know they still have lists that date back. Regardless, there is no way i'm making the 5 hour drive or working in siberian winters. I guess i'm too picky. I'm still keeping hopes high for Cambridge. I just found out one of the guys hired in Waterloo had 2 co-op placements with them and a 3 year fire supression engineering from lambton. I tell ya, when they only hire a handful, it makes it tough out of 800+ candidates.

I think Mississauga is a realistic possibility...

Dont think that mississauga is going to be any easier, big city with lots of people. I know 27 people myself that are all applying.
It's going to be just as tough...

Good Luck

well i'm pretty sure i guarentee myself an interview and i think i can make it. All those people you know, what are their qualifications like?

i'm not trying to discourage you at all, it's just so tough to get the job. as far as the qualifications go some are really good and some i wouldn't really worry to much about. i'm pretty sure i'll get an interview aswell, i have some family at that dept. hopefully that will help a little bit.

best of luck to ya jurassic and everyone else that applies.

I know firedad, it's like the lottery. But I think with a good self reflection someone can truely realize (if they are not naive) that they either have a realistic chance or not. I think I can attain it, and i've only been trying for a year. I'm almost there...it's all about the interview really. What saddens me is seeing some of my friends try even though i really know they don't stand a chance. They are just wishful thinkers. If you are willing to move, I think vancouver is a VERY attainable department. I made it to the final 50 for 11 spots and did some stupid things like not going to hall tours, re-scheduling my interview on the DAY of my interview (not wise), because I didn't really care. I know if i applied again i'd get it.

Lemme know if you wanna chat in email and we can share knowledge and email.

Peace.

Hey Jayblue,

The city of Ottawa has put the recruitment drive on hold for 2004,
they have a large pool of people that are on the list until 2006, also the city is having money issues.

where do you get applications for recruitments in those areas?

Hey Rainman,

Click on the "Deptments" section of this site, then click on desired dept and that should take you to the recruitment section for the dept, it does this in the city of Ottawa site.

You know, that really puzzles me about London. Here they are so close to CUTTING 7 or so firefighters when the budget comes out a few months ago and now there is talk of a recruitment.

Believe it when I see it. I hope the call comes in the spring.

Anyone know how fast London puts together a class after they hire?

I just might have my FF 1&2 done.

Gotta love the chase, hey?

Hey wannabe

Most cities use scare tactics of "threating" laying off emergency personnel to justify the need for tax increases, I know "my" city has in the past, nothing gets taxpayers screaming like the threat of laying off fire fighters and the closing of stations.

P.S; it took me 7yrs to become a career fire fighter the best advice I could give anyone is never give up....

Your right about the scare tactics. I could see no way they would lay off any when the OFM says they are understaffed. With the tragic death of that firefighter in St Thomas (next door) due to lack of personnel in very recent history as well.

Still...hope they wait until the spring when I have my stamps... or else I'm going to have to go in there and do some fancy talkin boy LOL

Never give up.... right on.
