HUNTSVILLE, ON - The fire department will soon issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the supply of a new 100-foot aerial truck, estimated to cost about a million dollars.
The department’s current truck is 25 years old and is due to be replaced in 2007, as per the department’s ‘capital truck replacement plan.’ Though the department had planned on waiting a few months before initiating the purchase, fire chief Steve Hernen found that the Town could save several thousand dollars if the truck were ordered by July.
Changes to American laws that govern the way chassis are built will soon increase their cost by about $40,000. Since the truck the department requires is manufactured in the United States, these costs would automatically be passed along to the Town.
