LIBERAL MP WAYNE EASTER, WHO HELPED DEFEAT THE BILL TO ALLOW EMERGENCY SERVICES WORKERS A $3,000 INCOME TAX DEDUCTION HAS COME BACK WITH $1000. AS YOU ALL KNOW THIS WILL BE AN ELECTION YEAR. EASTER TOOK ALOT OF FLAK AS WELL AS HIS THREE OTHER COLLEAGUES HERE ON PEI. THE ORIGINAL BILL WAS DEFEATED BY JUST 3 VOTES.
WITH AN ELECTION IN THE OFFING, HE IS TRYING TO APPEASE THE FIRE SERVICE BY INTRODUCING THIS WATERED DOWN BILL AND HOPES TO GET RE-ELECTED.
PLEASE WRITE OR E-MAIL TO GET OUR ORIGINAL AMMOUNT RE-INSTATED, (YES WE ARE WORTH IT)YOUR LOCAL MP CAN SUGGEST DURING DEBATE THAT THE ORIGINAL AMMOUNT BE RESTORED.
AFTER ALL, THE LIBERAL GOVT WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY SEPARATING WHAT A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER DOES AS COMPARED TO A MINOR HOCKEY COACH OR THE LOCAL BINGO CALLER AT THE LION'S CLUB. MAKE SOME NOISE, NOW IS THE TIME.

Hmmmm .... I have to admit. I have never heard of Tax break for Emergency workers.

Is this a provincial thing or a fedral thing?

Wow ......... I have heard some ridiculous excusses before but that one takes the cake. He completely missed the whole idea of it. Using his same analogy, you could say a person working at the counter of McDonalds should get the same breaks as a politician.

Now that I have heard what's going on I think I will do some digging and see what other information I can find and the view of my representitive.

Thanx for the info

Not to be dumb, But we already have the $1000 deduction as a Volly FF. Why lobby for what we already have?

Some guys get a $1000.00 deduction for a paid by call deal. Depts like ours, and there thousands of us across Canada don,t receive a dime. It was a simple way to allow unpaid volleys to keep a few of their own bucks in their own pockets to off-set costs.I will try to attach a CBC interview with our Provincial Fire Marshal that lays it out. I can,t seem to get it to attach. If you open cbc.ca and search under " Volunteers demand answers" the article will come up under cbc Prince Edward island. There is also an audio in the top right hand corner. Have a listen and see what you think. Take care BCFIRE
