Announcing the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Annual Memorial Ceremony
Morning of September 12, 2004
Parliament Hill
Ottawa, Canada

For Immediate Release:

The Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation announces the Annual Memorial Ceremony to honor the over 600 known firefighters who have died in the line of duty over Canada’s history. This ceremony will also honor those who have paid the supreme sacrifice in 2003.

All members of the Canadian Fire Service are invited to be present and unite in paying tribute to these brave firefighters. This will be a morning ceremony involving a march to the Hill, colour parties, honour guards and units from all over the Nation, the Central Band of the Canadian Forces and other participants presently being confirmed.

Please watch developments on the www.cfff.ca website as new additions will be posted as soon as they are known.

Please call or write the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation for further details. We anticipate this will be one of the largest gatherings ever to honor our Canadian firefighters who have died serving all of us.

Please make this part of your September plans and come to Ottawa.

I would recommend this event to all Firefighters. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend last year's service. The only person I met from outside Ontario was a forestry firefighter from Alberta. I am with a fire dept on PEI. The Memorial is a cause that should be taken up by all Firefighters to establish a national memorial site. Thanks, take care, BCFIRE see you in Sept.

This year, the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation is planning a truly National Ceremony on Parliament Hill. It will be September 12th, and already we have the Toronto Pipes and Drums coming, the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services Personnel Chaplain and individual firefighters from each province and territory. Watch the www.cfff.ca site for postings and hotel accomodations. The rooms will be a reduced rates but when they go on the site, they will go quickly we believe.

This event is the first time the more than 600 Fallen Firefighters of Canada will have been nationally honored. The event will become annual and eventually held at the Memorial site which is being developed in cooperation with the National Capital Commission. Fund raising is going ahead as this is written.

There will be representatives of many faiths present to honor both the 12 firefighters who died in 2003 and those who have not been remembered nationally until now. See the Fallen page on www.cfff.ca
