is there any fire safety code or regulation , on home-office premises in canada?

'home-office': a residential premises, where one or more of its rooms, being converted into office for commercial purposes. the commercial activities are limited in nature, like data entry, consultancy services, drafting services, etc

I dont believe so unless you rezone the space as commercial. Then the space would be subject to the safety codes of your particualar province. Do you have a safety codes officer you can talk to in your area. Let me know if you are in Alberta if so I'll do some research for you.

gd morning wfd 999.
thank you for replying. i am an officer with the singapore civil defence force. i am one of the fire safety consultants, here in our office in singapore. we do have our set of fire code but it doesnt spell out anything on a home-office premise.

this home-office concept is newly approved by the government and is to encourage low-cost entrepeunership operating in their homes.

i was just trying to extend my study on this concept in other countries and see if there are guidelines on such similar usage.

i truly appreciate your help on this, if you could find any.

thanx.

I asked one of our Prevention Officers and at least in our city, Brampton (in Ontario) there are no specific fire regulations for home/office businesses.

Hi Axeman

Went and dug through the books made a couple of phone calls to the specalist in the govt that work with the fire code and the saftey codes act. didnt find any specific code or act that pretains to home office. The only bit of info that applies is if there are to clients in the building and that is for ocupancy loading. There are regulations if there are other hazards. For example if the person is to do auto mechanics, or some other business that deals with dangerous goods.

Hope this helps
