VANCOUVER - Vancouver's hazardous materials team has been unable to find what made three people violently ill on a transit bus on Tuesday. The three, including the bus driver, were overcome with nausea as the bus made its way down Granville Street into downtown Vancouver. As police and firefighters searched for clues, Cordova Street was blocked for more than seven hours at the SeaBus terminal – and 19 people were placed under quarantine. Ten of them were allowed to leave after being checked out. The other nine were taken to hospital as a precaution. At first, the hazmat specialists focused their attention on a clear plastic bag of brown pellets. But Vancouver police Const. Sarah Bloor says tests showed they were nothing more than plant matter. "The preliminary tests showed results consistent with pine needles or pine cones," she says.
