EDMONTON, AB - Alberta's first oil boom left unforgettable echoes. "It's a hellish noise," recalled Dan Claypool, treasurer of the Canadian Petroleum Interpretive Centre. He had an uncomfortably close encounter with Alberta's buried treasure in its discovery days, manning one of the outdoor exhibits at his museum. "One of those in a lifetime is about enough," he said as a visit to the bright yellow machine awakened vivid memories of a 1954 oil well blowout.
