I recenlty moved up from the US (though am a proud Canadian). I received my FF-II pro-qual down there and also did an EMT-B (160 hours training) course -- all of this in Maryland, through the volunteer system.

I am starting to think seriously of looking for a career position here in Ontario, but am unsure of my EMT-B training. I would not like to retake hours and hours of first-aid again (refresher is fine, always good) and was wondering if anyone had any idea of any reciprocity, transferring or challenging something equivalent to my EMT-B. I had read somewhere about EMR which seems almost equivalent (??).

I would like to attempt to transfer my 160 hours of EMT-B training into something semi-equivalent here in Ontario.

Who would you suggest I contact? Red Cross (I have talked to them briefly)? St John Ambulance?

I hope this makes sense. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

For most Ont. dept's, they only require basic F/A and level "C" cpr (adult, child, infant) by a recognized teaching facility such as St. John, Heart and Stroke. These courses are anywhere from 8 - 16 hours of training. I would suggest instead of wasting time and energy trying to figure out what is transferable, just sign up for and sit in a course that's recognized up here and get your certificate.
