i can't even imagine being a dispatcher on a major call like that. I know that in the best of times they are crazy busy.... This is truly amazing hearing what happened as it happened.

i can understand, maybe a few tapes to be aired, before the collapse of tower 1, but anything from that moment on we have no right to listen to

Actually, I think that the Access to Information may come into play & it would have been put out for the public to see anyways...
Plus it was a dispatcher who put this together....

Welcome to politics in the US! There is this little thing called the ‘Freedom of Information Act’, and because FDNY is a tax paid entity, as are all of their communications, the law states that we have a right to any and all of those recordings. I believe it was the NY Times that sued to have the recordings released.
Is it right, is it wrong? I think that we each have to think deeply about that, and ultimately let our conscience guide us.
I try to look at the positive side of things, with regard to this release. In my opinion it shows just how much FDNY did do that day. It is a fact, made public through this release, that members of Rescue Co. 1 had actually made their way to the fire floor of the first tower hit. On that floor they were actually able to place a hand line into operation. Captain Terry Hatton can be heard making a progress report, and later a mayday call for his company.
Other transmissions have Captain Pat Brown, along with Ladder Co. 3 answering mayday calls of other injured firefighters.
If nothing else, these radio reports show the true professionalism FDNY maintained, right to the very end, as those towers came down. It is sad for the family members to hear their loved ones last few moments; I am quite sure of that. However, it may comfort them to know just how heroic they truly were, particularly with the odds these men were up against. It also shows the rest of the world the heroes these men are.
