I'm listening to a feed that isn't totally clear, but about 10 min ago, they called a 2nd alarm due to heavy smoke...not sure what is on fire. I did hear, however, one of the captains called in a mayday and that 2 ff were possibly trapped in a partial collapse.

I'm going to say that you overheard a training exercise.
Fingers crossed (matches my eyes :)).

I am at work today and haven't heard anything......but I know they are training crews morning and afternoons for the last number on months and months to come on radio and mayday procedures.
I am guessing it was a feed of the channel being used for that training. I could be wrong but I can look into it further.
FYI - usally before the training scenario starts it is annouced this is a training exercise.

Toronto Fire has been training on the new radio "mayday" procedures at Special Operations. Part of the scenario training is the calling out of a "mayday" for a trapped firefighter in a partial collapse. An announcement is
made over the channel about to be used. When we did our training we were using Tac 6 channel.
I believe that you were overhearing this.

A couple of weeks ago, I was at 334, and I heard the same thing over the radio. As you guys are saying, they we're training their maydays on the radio.
Cheers

alilcntrygal,
I have been listening in on the same channel on the Team Speak off and on.
It is their daily training excercises!!
Like the guys said working on new radio procedures etc.
If you listen closely when they call a 2nd Alarm, it is usually just a couple of apparatus's vice the usual on-slot of trucks and FF's.
As well listen for the original call for the address: One Remunsy is the Trg ground for TO FIRE.
