A special firefighting team from Tahsis that is on standby in Duncan to fight wildfires had their truck and all their gear stolen Tuesday night from the motel where they are staying. The Red Devils Fire Crew didn't hear the thieves take the vehicle, even though the rented white Ford F-350 Diesel was taken from its parking space right outside their door. The fire crew was on 20-minute standby for any forest fires on Vancouver Island.
