Hey all,
Does anyone have any experience or advice in regards to the Crossfit program? The website keeps reiterating how good it is for military and law enforcement, etc. but I was interested if it would be relative to firefighting as well. If anyone has or is doing it, any comments? is it a good program to follow and if not what do you recommed for a program? i'm trying to find a good realistic program that I won't get bored of and will stick with.

Hey NFF,
I got turned onto Crossfit by some guys at my Dept. Some of the WOD's are a little extreme but we focus on the chinups, pushups, crunches, dips etc etc. 5-10-15 reps for 20 usually does it. Even some of the die-hard plate-tossers mix it in for a change from weights and the Combat guys are big fans. The results so far here are 100% positive. Just don't overdo it and know your limits. Last month's Muscle and Fitness had a blurb about a 38 y/o who died from a heart attack from it. Good luck with it!

Crossfit can be part of an all round workout.
Keep in mind that it is an extreme form of exercise and really isn't for the out of shape person trying to get in shape.
Generally speaking crossfit strings a bunch of anaerobic activities together and lets be honest, that is what this job can be like.
So, if you yourself have the knowlege (or know someone else who does) their workouts can be molded to suit this job and you.
Sometimes at work I will take 5 or more exercises (performed for a minute each) and do them continously in circuits up to 5 times in true crossfit style.
Typical movements: burpees, box hops, lunges, skipping, rower, xbike, sprawls etc
...time flyes when you are having ...err...fun.
My favorite crossfit record?
One of their members ran a mile and benched their own weight 30 times in less than 6 minutes!!!!!!!!
