KAMLOOPS -- High winds and lightning are now the key enemies of firefighters battling three expanding blazes in the Kamloops area and fire officials concede the flames will undoubtedly spread. "We do expect the fires to continue to spread in areas on the perimeter," said Kevin Matuga, fire information officer with the Kamloops fire centre. Matuga said the centre recorded 1,000 lightning strikes in 24 hours since storms rolled into the area Tuesday. The lightning is being blamed for igniting 63 new fires since Tuesday morning, 27 of which began in the space of six hours Wednesday.
