GREENWOOD, NS - Two 14 Wing Greenwood search and rescue technicians have just finished a mission with a difference. The life-saving pair was shuttled to a medal ceremony hosted by Gov. Gen. Adrienne Clarkson, this time in civilian aircraft. Sgt. Andre Hotton and Master Cpl. Steeve Bedard accepted their medals for bravery at Rideau Hall, symbols of valour they consider recognition for their whole squadron. The elite SAR Tech duo parachuted from a Hercules aircraft into the heavily wooded, remote mountainside at Natashquan, Que. on Sept. 28, 2002. Equipped with little more than a small rescue axe, they searched for the lone survivor of a plane crash. "Because I was there on that day, I helped to change someone's destiny," Master Cpl. Bedard said in an interview.
