This isnt the proper area where this post should be put, but its the one that suits it best for all that I can choose from.
I was just curious if anyone knows of dates or locations, of the S100 or 200 course in the sudbury area anytime after sept.
If you have taken the pre service course is the full S100 a requirement, because i've read you learn WHMIS and basic HAZMAT but all that is covered in the pre service course.. or is the s100 a course, get the whole thing or nothing kind of thing???
anyone taken it???
Thanx.
take care yall.

a little late in seeing this, sorry... but if you mean the (newly-renamed) SP-100 courses (and so on) for forest fire management, like for a job with the MNR as a FireRanger, then take a look at this site, it shoudl give you all the info you need:
http://affm.mnr.gov.on.ca/spectrasites/viewers/showArticle.cfm?objectid=D66A25E2-BFDA-4B40-84537F62A62D271E&method=DISPLAYFULLNOBARNOTITLE&id=D66A25E2-BFDA-4B40-84537F62A62D271E&siteid=43EC35D1-3969-4666-A821C4FD0353783E
there's a link on there saying "SP-100 Training Agencies" that should do the trick for ya.

Hey,
I have my Pre service course and am scheduled for my s100 course in 2 weeks(the end of march). Yes you need the whole couse even if you have your pre service course. The S100 goes more in depth with chain saws and just the forestry part of fire fighting in general. While the pre service course just has a brief overview of forest firefighting. (The S100 is only 40hours long anways). I dont think many S100 courses are running after the end of march. Contact wildfire.com. They run the course all over ON. I know that there are still a few spots left in Ottawa, I am not sure about Sudbury. Hope this helps some:)

the SP-100 (new name this year) actually doesn't get into any detail on chainsaws or anything like that - the only thing it covers in that regard is fireground safety around a chainsaw operator (ie make sure you're not gonna get squished by the tree, get their attention before you approach, etc).
i did my training with wildfire specialists in sault ste. marie last may (they also do courses under the name coulterman consulting - same people, same course, different company name), and they were excellent. they run courses fairly late into the season, but they are in much more northerly locations (ie the sault), since they follow the melting ice northwards as spring goes on.
wildfire/coulterman has an *excellent* group of people teaching the course, i really strongly recommend them to anyone who's interested in taking the SP-100 ... super friendly, very knowledgeable, and very fun to work with. if you take the time to chat with the guys during breaks and so on, you'll learn an incredible amount just from the stories they tell you. :D
having said that the SP-100 doesn't deal with chainsaws etc, wildfire/coulterman usually (pretty much always) holds a specific, 2-day chainsaw course immediately following the SP-100 course in each location. if you take this mini-course, you'll get hands-on experience with field servicing a chansaw - things like sharpening your chain, tensioning it properly, cleaning the saw, etc etc. you'll also get a large chunk of classroom time, teaching you about the different chain types, cut styles, ways to make leaning trees fall the way *you* want them too, the whole nine yards. a big emphasis throughout the course is, of course, SAFETY. they're really good at making sure you know what NOT to do, and how to properly and safely do the stuff you *should* be doing. there's a big practical part to this course, too - you go out and saw down a bunch of trees with them, them limb and buck them into reasonably sized pieces. this is a SUPER course to take, i really highly recommend it - i learned a huge amount from it.
also... they will typically run other add-on courses when they do SP-100 courses, things like Restricted Radio Operation (you get an Industry Canada operator certificate at the end), WHMIS, TDG, all kinds of good stuff. i can't recommend them strongly enough... great group of people.
