Billy i like the idea of the actings helmets, they wear the stripes when they are acting but when in full turnout including helmet its hard to tell whos acting but with the red band around the black helmet, yeah you know that the guy is acting when you see the red band as opposed to just the black helmet

I agree with what Red_Devil said about the acting helmets, great idea ... our firefighters have red helmets and captains have yellow, chiefs have white, but no distinction of when a firefighter is the acting captain. It can be kind of confusing when you're wondering where the captain is, and all you see is red helmets!
Something I might suggest to the higher ups.

We use the following:

White - Chief Officers (Chief & Deputy)
Red - Line Officers (Capt's & Lieut's)
Yellow - FF's
Yellow with a Blue Stripe - Probies

Some dept's around here also use a Blue helmet for the Safety Officer.

Default Helmets

HAMILTON FIRE

CHIEF White
DEP CHIEF White
ADEP CHIEF White
DIST CHIEF White
AREA COMM White
CAPTAIN Red
LIEUT /T.O Red
FIREFIGHTER Black
PROB F.F Yellow

All helmets new york style Ben 2
All indicate rank
All career have velcro passport on leather patch this indicates the truck they are on RE;Pumper 3 will show P3
All volunteers will show which station they are from
All volunteer Probs have a big green R on the back of helmet

Personally the Ben 2 Helmet is way more comfortable although it is a little bit heavier than the old style metro buckets.
