Default Tips and Tricks, how to pass the time?

I`ve heard that oilfield firefighting can often be sitting in a truck for 12 hours a day waiting for something to happen. First off, is this correct? Secondly, what do you guys bring with you to pass the time? Are you allowed to bring laptops in the trucks? Is there cell phone service?WIFI? What about books? Any information would be helpful, thanks!

Oilfield can be a lot of sitting. My personal experience is well dated now, but my contacts say it's still relevant.

Best way to blow the doors off of a future interviewer/panel: tell them, yeah, so you had this job that did involve a lot of sitting, but you made damned sure you knew your equipment inside and out; and you found time to study to further your education/understanding of a particular subject.

View the downtime as an opportunity.
