Snippet:
EDMONTON, AB - Thick black smoke poured from an industrial area in southeast Edmonton Wednesday after fire broke out in a vat of oil shortly before 10 a.m. causing an estimated $1.5 million damage.
The two-alarm fire sparked in a large tank of quenching oil, a hot tub-sized pit used to quickly cool metal inside the Thermex Metal Treating Ltd. facility at 18th Street and 74th Avenue.
Fire investigators say a piece of hot stainless steel was being lowered into the mineral oil when it hooked a cooling line attached to the side of the tank. The line broke, spilling oil that immediately ignited.
