Elderly Manitoba man dies trying to fight grass fire

PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, MB - RCMP say a 78-year-old Manitoba man has been killed while trying to fight a grass fire on his property.

RCMP Cpl. Miles Hiebert says the fire broke out Thursday in a rural area southeast of Portage la Prairie and spread to a shed on the man's property.

The man attempted to control the blaze as fire crews were dispatched to the scene.
