Need help!

Postby Henry22 » Thu Apr 21, 2016 2:09 am

I am thinking to pursue my career as a firefighter but I have been held back by the fact that I wear glasses. Will laser vision correction procedure from any nearby clinic like the Goldberg in Toronto help to correct my eyes? Is it expensive? Anyone had it done prior to joining here?

Well it all depends on what's wrong with them. If your vision is just beyond 20/30 than yes it should. I had mine done and it worked great. Was about 10 years ago but it cost $5000

under the minimum requirements (for Toronto) it states:

* 20/30 uncorrected vision in each eye with colour vision that is safe for fire fighting

the cost of vision correction depends on how bad your eyes are.. it was close to $6000 for mine about 8 years ago.

also make sure you check that you aren't colourblind/have monochromatic vision.

As stated before, all depends on the current state of your eyes! I had it done at LASIK a couple years ago. My eyes were just slightly over 20/30, and they are now 20/15. Would highly recommend it personally, however make sure you do your research and pick a reputable clinic and don't cheap out. They are your eyes afterall!

Best of luck, hope I could be of some help!

Cheers.
