Fire practice/exercise

Postby deputy_nater » Sun Jun 07, 2015 1:56 pm

I run a small department of 10-12 members. I am having a few problems. I am having trouble getting members to come out for fire practice. The second problem is I would like to see some of the guys that do show up to practice be in a little better shape. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get guys to participate? And also any ideas on how to get guys to do some exercise at practice without realising that is what they are doing?

Hey Chief,

Something we do is sports on air such as dodgeball, basketball or road hockey. This has a few benefits.

1. It is usually considered fun
2. Creates teamwork and bonding
3. Best air management drills I have found
4. They don't even know they are getting fit 😀

Good luck

I love that idea. It is fun and the rules could be adapted to introduce lifelike situations for them to train for. I think it would also cause them to do some thinking about how to get maximum use of the tools they have available to them.
