The City of St. Albert has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, dynamic and progressive individual who has a proven track record of providing leadership and guidance within an emergency services department. Reporting to the Director, Emergency Services (Fire Chief) the Deputy Chief will be responsible for implementing and promoting Fire Services’ strategic plan while ensuring the delivery of integrated emergency services to the community. The Deputy Chief is a key leader within Fire Services and will encourage and foster a culture of innovation, engagement and respect. With a strong commitment to building relationships with key stakeholders, this role will promote diversity of ideas and opinions while remaining focused on maintaining a safe and collaborative environment.


An undergraduate degree in Emergency Management, Business, Public Administration, or related field.
A minimum of 10 years of experience as an officer within a professional emergency services department, including 5 years experience in a senior officer role, or equivalent.
A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.
PCP/ACP certification is strongly desired
NFPA 1001, 1021, Incident Command System 300 required 400 preferred.
Ability to lead emergency services teams in a variety of situations and effectively managing processes.
Experience developing and maintaining positive working relationships with staff, union executive and colleagues that fosters effective problem solving and innovation.
A thorough understanding of the emergency services function, with the ability to react effectively in high-stress and potentially life-threatening situations.
Knowledgeable in leading technologies for emergency services.
A valid Class 5 Driver’s License. A personal vehicle is required for use at work.

This is a 6-month term position.
