BLS Replacing HCP

Postby Varey85 » Thu Nov 14, 2019 9:58 am

Hey everyone,

I thought I would just throw up some info in regards to some new Red Cross certification. Standard First Aid Level HCP has now been replaced by BLS. If your renewing your EMR or are planning on getting it, it will read:

Emergency Medical Responder

I want to make note of this because most municipalities haven't made the switch and are still looking for "HCP". Ive called a few and informed them of the change. They were thankful and made note of it.

If you're certified with the new BLS, then I would recommend putting HCP in brackets on your resume to avoid any unnecessary confusion.

As always, good luck everyone!

Great point about the recent change to the standard! Make sure all of you candidates make note on your resume and cover letters to reflect this, and if you can specifically advise the certifying medical companies to indicate this change, on their certificates if possible before you receive it.

Many fire departments and human resources will be behind the ball on indicating this change moving forward, so be aware. Great advice!
