Colour Code Helmets
LAFDKid44 wrote:I just watched a dvd about 9-11 and i saw 2 colours of helmets in the FDNY:
All Cheifs were white
Everything else was black officers, firefighters and probies, they just had different colour patches on the front.
And I saw red helmets, the guys with red helmets also had red SCBA's does anyone know who these people are and why they have red helmets?
FIREFIGHTER KID
The guys with red helmets and red bottles are from the Fire Patrol in NYC, just saw an article about them and how they are closing over on firehouse.com

Chief - White
D. Chief - Red
Firefighter - Yellow
We don't have any other ranks, other than pecking order in the crews. With a total of 13 members, our normal turnout is about 8 or 9, which works out well (Chief = IC, each DC commands a three or four person unit, each unit generally has at least two experienced ff's).
Unfortunately, a neighboring fd uses red for FF's and yellow for DC's and CPT's, which can get confusing during training, as well as they're an automatic call when we have an MVA in our area (we aren't equiped with hydraulics).

In the lovely de-merged city of Pointe-Claire, we at PCVRU have as follows:
White: Director, Asst. Director
Red: Capt & Lt
Yellow: Regular Member (can't call us firefighters since we aren't)
Probies wear Yellow helmets with red turn out gear (patch coats actually) which will change soon. All helmets have the department crest on the front and their badge number on the side. those who are first responders have a star of life on the back.
If anyone has ideas, we're looking into changing the helmets a bit... New shield, maybe with the persons # on it and for officers, have their number on the sides and their rank on the shield (since there are 2 positions that share the same color) and have their number put on the side since there wouldn't be enough room. Right now we are wearing Cairns 660's and there are a few Bullards hanging around but the problem is that we can't put a leather shield on the front, which is too bad cause they look good and there's more room.
Also, once the probies get a bunker like everyone else, what could we do to identify them??? We don't have the budget to get 5 black helmets so I'm guessing some semi-permanant sticker on the sides.... any thoughts?

in Cambridge ...
White = Chief, D/C's, Platoon Chiefs, Chief Training Officer, CFPO
Red = Captain
Yellow = FF, FP Inspector
Our firefighters that are actors as Captains get a red helmet for when they are acting. Likewise a Captain that acts as PC get's a white helmet.
