I know they're probably looking for consistency throughout your answers, but I did that and still came up short.
It's either that section or the other HR section with "most appropriate" "least appropriate" questions that I didn't do too well on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
How did you answer these? using strongly agree or disagree?
well I actually answered with mostly Agree and Disagree. Iv'e been told that its best to answer with "Strongly Agree" or "Strongly Disagree", however I found it hard to feel very strongly about any of the questions to go with either options. Would like to hear from people on their strategy when approaching that section or if they simply just go with their first instinct when answering the questions.
thats interesting, I've heard from others that it wasn't best to answer on one side of the scale or the other, but rather just agree or disagree. Something about still having an open mind, but knowing where you stand
In January 2018, Ontario Fire Administration Inc. (OFAI) will be implementing a number of changes to our Candidate Testing Services (CTS). These changes were proposed by OFAI and approved by our Advisory Committee this past November. The OFAI Advisory Committee sets policies on our testing process and is comprised of senior fire officers and human resource professionals from our municipal fire service partners. A few changes are outlined below.
Effective January 10, 2018, the OFAI re-test policy will change, and is as follows:
1st Failure - 15 days Candidates must wait 15 days before participating in a re-test.
2nd Failure - 30 days Candidate must wait 30 days before participating in a re-test.
All subsequent failures will be subject to a 30-day wait period.
There are no longer 90 or 180-day waiting periods. This new re-test policy applies to ALL STAGES of our testing program. As with the current re-test policy, each stage is subject to its own re-test period; it is NOT cumulative over the three stages.
In addition to this change, the re-test period for all candidates will reset to 15 days on January 10, 2018. This includes any candidates currently in the midst of their 30, 90 or 180-day wait periods.
Candidates requiring clarification on their re-rest period can contact the OFAI Administration office at 905-426-6756 or by email to .
Firefighter Technical Skills Split
Effective January 10, 2018, Stage Three, Part Two Firefighter Technical Skills will be split into two sections.
Section one will be comprised of the 10 Metre Ladder Climb, Ropes, Knots and Tool Lift, SCBA Proficiency and Medical Scenario.
Section two will be comprised of the Roof Ventilation, 7m Ladder Raise/Roof Ladder Deployment and Fine Motor Skills (Hose Assembly).
With this change, candidates are permitted to move to the second section of the Technical Skills if they fail a skill in the first section. For greater clarification, if a candidate fails a skill in one section, they are required to stop that section immediately. However, they will now be permitted to challenge the skills in the other section, on the same day.
If one skill is failed in both sections, candidates will be required to re-test the entire Firefighter Technical Skills. If a candidate fails a skill in only one section, then they are only required to re-book the failed section. The following fee structure will apply:
Stage Three, CPAT and Firefighter Technical Skills - Section One & Two - $448.00 plus HST
Stage Three, Part Two - Firefighter Technical Skills Retest Section One- $125.00 plus HST
Stage Three, Part Two - Firefighter Technical Skills Retest Section Two- $125.00 plus HST
Stage Three, Part Two - Firefighter Technical Skills Retest Section One & Two- $250.00 plus HST
IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
The Firefighter Technical Skills will now NOT be completed in a particular order within each section. You will be advised once on site, as to which order you will complete the skills.
Anyone who attempted the Firefighter Technical Skills PRIOR to December 1, 2017 and was unsuccessful, must book the Firefighter Technical Skills Retest (Section 1 & 2).
Candidates who were unsuccessful on the Firefighter Technical Skills between December 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017 must contact the OFAI Administration office at 905-426-6756 or by email to before booking their re-test.
For candidates who have already booked their Firefighter Technical Skills re-test in January, the OFAI Administration office will contact you.
If you practice safe evolutions, and listen to instructions you will be successful. The evaluators I had were great and allowed be to be relaxed and complete the tasks.
Just my humble opinion.
