2019 FireFit Championships
2019 FireFit Championships
Mark your calendars for the 2019 Canadian FireFit Championships.
Organizers anticipate more than 1,500 firefighters will participate in competitions across the country this year.
So far, 16 competitions are scheduled.
The year kicks off May 11 and 12 with a competition in Courtenay, B.C., and wraps up Sept. 11 to 15 with the World FireFit & Canadian National Championships in Oshawa, Ont.
The FireFit Championships is a competition based on firefighting tasks commonly performed in emergency situations.
The events are open to:
• Active, medically cleared structural firefighters, 19 years or older.
• Currently enrolled, medically cleared pre-fire service school students, 19 years or older. Pre-fire service students require a letter from their school confirming that they are enrolled in a pre-fire service program and are covered by the school’s insurance.
Retired fire fighters, candidates in the hiring process and students who've graduated from a pre-fire service program but have not been hired by a fire department are not eligible to compete.
Participants can compete in:
• FireFit Relay – 3-to-5-person teams complete seven tasks.
• FireFit X3 (2-person technical relay)
• FireFit Individual/Team (team made of 3 to 5 members)
FireFit began in Canada in 1994 in Vancouver. The popularity of the event has grown over the years.
Broadcasts are aired on TSN, OLN & RDS.
Competitors come from every province and territory in Canada as well as the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, England and the Middle East.
